My Choice

This is my favorite picture from my portfolio because it has a very Vogue magazine feel to it. This was taken at the Palace of Fine Arts in the afternoon. Viewers can see color and movement in this picture through the dress and the plants in the background and the way the models’ hair is moving in the wind and her eyes looking off in the distance.

Photoshop Altered Image

Here is a picture of a plane made out of recycled material. This was taken in the afternoon at the San Bruno Arts and Wine Festival. This picture represents color and emphasis. The color can be seen through the green from the 7up cans and the emphasis is seen through the black and white background and the plane being in the middle of the picture.

Photo in the Style of Annie Leibovitz

This is a picture done in the style of my studied photographer, Annie Leibovitz. Her life work has included working for the Rolling Stones, Disney, Vogue, and Vanity Fair. Katelynn, my model, was kind enough to help me out with this project. This was taken at the Palace of Fine Arts in San Francisco around 2:00. I shot in manual mode on a low ISO and f5.6 settings. Movement and space contribute to how well this picture came out.

Best Actor Head Shot

This is a headshot taken for my friend James Giusti who attends Serra High School. I set up outside my house right as the sun was setting. I shot on manual mode with 250 ISO and f5.6. This picture turned out great because of the asymmetrical balance and space.

Self Portrait

Here is a picture of me at a park in San Mateo during the afternoon. Lines and balance are represented in this picture. The lines of my legs, arms, and poles in the background create this image. The asymmetrical balance of my whole body on the right side of the picture versus the left side of the picture makes the picture feel heavier on the right side. I accomplished this photo with a tri-pod and a self timer.

Environmental Portrait

This is a picture of a homeless guy on the sidewalk in San Francisco during Labor Day weekend in the afternoon. I took this picture by zooming in with my telephoto lens and capturing this moment. Line and proportion are represented in this picture. The lines coming from the tires, meter, and the Asian guy looking at the homeless guy creates movement to the viewers eye. The Asian guy falls on a third line creating that asymmetrical balance.

Candid Portrait (Mercy Girl)

Here are a few girls studying in the cafeteria at Mercy High School. Mr. Hermano sent us out into the school to try and take this style of photography. This picture represents unity as well as space. You can see the unity in the girls wearing all uniforms and space through the blurred out background.

Scanner Art

This is my scanner art picture. What I had scanned in were the dollar bill, my head, and my signature in the picture. All the scanning and editing were done at school. This picture represents color as well as emphasis. The color can be seen through the very vibrant blue in the background. The emphasis in the picture is represented by the dollar bill.

Shutter Photo

This is a picture taken at Rockaway Beach in Pacifica right at sunset. This picture shows space and movement. The space can be seen through the rock in the positive space in the picture while the waves are in the negative space in the picture. The movement can be seen through the waves retreating from the shore.

Ansel Adams Nature Photography

This is a picture taken at Mercy High School down the hill. It is in the style of Ansel Adams, a famous photographer who mostly takes pictures of nature in black and white. I took this picture considering the stump which is placed on a third line to create asymmetrical balance in the picture. Value is an element of design present in this picture because you can see the sky as a very white background and the very black colors in the stump. I shot on landscape mode during the early morning when our class went down to take pictures in this spot.

Principle of Design

This is a picture of glass tiles out in the Serra High School hallways in the afternoon. I took this picture not knowing that it would really show variety as a principle of design. This picture shows lines because of the grout in between the tiles. I was shooting on automatic settings on my camera.

Element of Design

This photo was taken in the rose gardens at Mercy High School in the morning time. The settings on my camera were on auto. This picture shows space because the background is blurred out and color as an element of design. This picture also shows emphasis as a principle of design because the flower stands out in the picture bcause it stands out in the picture because it contrasts the green.

Sunprint Image

This is a picture made through chemical reactions in the paper. The shapes in this picture are a key in the top center and the two dots are headphones. This picture represents value and pattern. The value can be seen through the black background and the white headphones. The pattern can be seen through the penciled shading around the objects. This was done during the morning at Mercy High School.
